EMT Refresher 2021
October 6, 13, 20, 27, November 3, 2020 1800-2200hrs. Optional skills session November 10, 2021 1800-2200
This course is conducted in person and through webinar as a VILT (Virtual Instructor Lead Training) style webinar. This course follows the 2016 NREMT National Continued Competency Program (NCCP). Students receive Continuing Education Credits for the sessions attended. There is a separate optional 4-hour in-person skills session which verifies the necessary skills of an EMT according to the NCCP outline. This course is for those with State and/or NREMT EMT Certification. Click here to register.
Paramedic Refresher 2023
January 10, 2023 to March 14, 2023 every Tuesday evening. March 7, 2023 is an IN PERSON EKG LAB held at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Room to be determined.
This course is conducted in person and through webinar using Microsoft Teams. This course follows the 2016 NREMT National Continued Competency Program (NCCP). Students receive Continuing Education Credits for the sessions attended. This course is for those with State and/or NREMT Paramedic Certification. All levels of EMS may receive continuing education credits. However, the material is presented at the ALS level.

12 Lead EKG Interpretation
Provide the basic knowledge to allow a paramedic or other health care provider to critically evaluate the 12-lead ECG tracing and not just rely on a computer-generated analysis. Providers are presented with information concerning the most recent trends in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, for patients suffering from acute coronary syndromes.
Provider Course: 16 hours
12 Lead EKG Refresher
This course has been written and designed by the Conemaugh School of EMS to serve as a refresher for the Prehospital 12 Lead EKG course. It helps to refresh the student’s knowledge of interpretation of 12 Lead EKG to include axis deviation and updated trends in treatment.

ACLS for the EMT
This 8-hour course, ACLS for the EMT, is designed to provide the BLS provider with the knowledge base that will not only make them feel more comfortable in the ALS setting but can support the ALS provider by becoming a more knowledgeable team member. This course will build upon your BLS experience and expand your knowledge regarding some cardiac pharmacology, cardiac electrophysiology, airway management, and electrical therapy. The course will emphasize the importance of basic life support to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.
This course does not expand your current scope of practice, nor does it certify you in ACLS. This is a continuing education program and does not meet ACLS Requirements
ACLS Prep
A 4-hour course written and designed by Conemaugh School of EMS that is designed to familiarize a student, preparing to take ACLS for the first time, with skills and knowledge necessary for successful completion of ACLS. Topics covered include Airway management, Basic ECG interpretation, Pharmacology and electrical therapy treatments.
American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
The following ACLS Renewal Dates are hybrid. You complete the course work at your convivence and arrive for the in-person skills session and exam.

American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

CPAP In-Service
This course is used as an in-service for those EMS Personal who will be utilizing CPAP.
The program is designed for BLS and ALS providers and is 3 hours in duration.
EMS Skill Lab & Lecture
A 3-hour session that includes 1 hour of 4 randomly chosen BLS and ALS skills that verifies a practitioner’s ability to refresh on the skill and then demonstrate their knowledge of performing the skill. The next two hours is dedicated to current EMS issues and case studies. This course requires the physical presence of the Medical Director.
EMT Refresher
Conducted once a year, on a weeknight/week starting in October and running through November. This course is designed to meet the renewal requirements and competencies for the renewal of the National Registered EMT. This course meets and exceeds the requirements set forth by the National Registry and the PA Department of Health. This course is conducted as an in person and simulcast via webinar. Students may attend individual modules or the entire program.

Paramedic Refresher
Conducted once a year, on Saturdays starting in January and running through March. This course is designed to meet the National component of the NREMT NCCP renewal requirement for the paramedic. This course meets and exceeds the requirements set forth by the National Registry and the PA Department of Health. This course is conducted as an in person and is simulcast via webinar. Students may attend individual modules or the entire program.

NAEMT AHDR
All Hazards Disaster Response is designed to offer a systems-based approach to disaster preparedness and response to EMS practitioners. AHDR focuses on the response component of the four phases of emergency management, with an emphasis on the medical aspects of care and response. This is accomplished by preparing EMS practitioners at all levels to analyze potential threats in their area, assess available resources, create a response plan that will save lives and respond to the many types of disaster scenarios they may encounter. Features of a response plan covered in the course include Communicating effectively during disasters; mutual aid and interoperability; managing resources such as supplies, medications, and equipment; triage and transportation strategies and challenges; patient tracking and evacuation.

NAEMT AMLS
Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) is the gold standard for EMS assessment training. Endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians, AMLS emphasizes the use of the AMLS Assessment Pathway, a systematic tool for assessing and managing common medical conditions with urgent accuracy. Students learn to recognize and manage common medical crises, including respiratory disorders, cardiovascular disorders, shock, neurologic disorders, abdominal disorders, endocrine disorders, infectious diseases, environmental related disorders, and toxicologic emergencies. Realistic case-based scenarios challenge students to apply their knowledge to highly critical patients.
Provider Course: 16 hours. Refresher Course: 8 hours.
NAEMT B-CON
Bleeding Control for the Injured (B-Con) teaches members of the public to take action to save a life. Students are taught basic life-saving medical interventions, including: The rationale for the early use of a tourniquet for life-threatening extremity bleeding. The appropriate application of a tourniquet to the arm and leg. The progressive strategy for controlling hemorrhage. Airway control techniques and devices. The correct application of a topical hemostatic dressing (combat gauze). THIS COURSE IS NOW Called Stop The Bleed.

NAEMT EMS Safety
The EMS Safety course trains EMS practitioners to be active participants in their own safety. Participants are taught to identify and remove the hazards that can appear during daily tasks, from offensive drivers to violent encounters to chronic stress. Participants are given practical strategies that they can apply in the field, from situational awareness to defensive driving to verbal deflection. Finally, participants are taught how to strengthen their resiliency skills to combat both chronic and critical incident stress. EMS Safety is the first national and most comprehensive safety-focused education course. Its interactive format features real-life case studies, compelling discussions on current safety issues, and provides participants with a forum to share their own experiences. Critical thinking skill stations help to build participants’ risk assessment and decision-making skills.

NAEMT EPC
Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) focuses on those critical situations, enabling EMS practitioners to provide the best treatment for sick and injured children in the field. The course goes through the pathophysiology of the most common critical pediatric emergency issues, and critical thinking skills to help practitioners make the best decisions for their patients. The course encompasses lectures, interactive skills stations, small group critical thinking discussions and patient simulations/resuscitation scenarios.
Provider Course: 16 hours. Refresher Course: 8 hours.
NAEMT GEMS
Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS) provides EMS practitioners with the skills and knowledge to handle the unique medical, social, environmental and communications challenges of older adults. Developed by NAEMT in partnership with the American Geriatrics Society, GEMS empowers EMS practitioners to help improve medical outcomes and quality of life for geriatric patients. This course enhances the competence, confidence and compassion of EMS practitioners in responding to geriatric patients. Small group discussion and simulations including a station that allows students to experience vision, sensory and movement disorders, deepening their understanding of and compassion for geriatric patients.
Provider Course: 8 hours.
NAEMT PHTLS
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) empowers EMS practitioners by focusing on the principles that strengthen their knowledge base and ability to make rapid and appropriate patient care decisions. PHTLS teaches why a certain procedure is performed, as opposed to simply how a procedure should be performed. The program emphasizes a quick assessment of patients with traumatic injuries to improve survival. Topics covered include the principles of trauma care, scene and patient assessment, airway management, circulation, hemorrhage control and detection/ treatment of shock.
Provider Course: 16 hours. Refresher Course: 8 hours.
VFIS EVDT (EVOC)
The 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Driver Training course will provide the participants with knowledge in the safe operation of an emergency vehicle. The course consists of two components, the first is the didactic (classroom) and the second is the competency driver's course. It is up to each participant's own service to provide the third part of driver training orientation and department specific SOP/SOGs.
