Conemaugh Vascular Surgeon Recognized
October 19, 2020
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center congratulates board-certified vascular surgeon John Gray, MD on his recent designation as a TCAR Clinical Operator of Experience (COE) which recognizes physicians that have successfully completed TCAR training, have achieved an advanced level of experience and maintained sufficient experience as measured by the number of TCAR cases completed in a 12-month period.
Transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR), uses a device to briefly reverse the direction of blood flow in the treatment of carotid artery disease. With blood (and any clots) flowing away from the brain while the physician operates, the patient's risk of stroke during the procedure is lower. TCAR, now being used to take the place of the traditional carotid endarterectomy (CEA) procedure, is less invasive with the lowest reported carotid stenting stroke rate of 1.4%.
Dr. Gray provides surgical care for carotid artery disease, DVT (deep vein thrombosis), aneurysm repair, varicose veins and dialysis access.
