Conemaugh Physician Group vascular surgeon, James Tretter, DO, was inducted into the Heart Hall of Fame at the 2024 Cambria Somerset Heart Ball on Saturday, April 13.
To be awarded the Heart Hall of Fame Award, nominees must be employed in the health care field that works to improve the lives of community members. Inductees must be actively involved in fighting heart disease and stroke while demonstrating a deep commitment to the Cambria and Somerset communities.
“I am profoundly grateful to receive such an immense honor at this year’s Heart Ball,” said Dr. Tretter. “This is a testament to the collective dedication of countless healthcare professionals committed to advancing cardiovascular care in our region.”
Before joining the Conemaugh team, Dr. Tretter attended Penn State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He continued his education at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his general surgery residency training at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Finding a passion for vascular surgery, Dr. Tretter furthered his studies in the field at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he underwent intense fellowship training. Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Tretter served his country in the United States Army at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. He has since returned home to Johnstown where he proudly serves as the Director of Vascular Surgery at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
A pioneer for cardiovascular health in the area, Dr. Tretter performed the area’s first transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) in February 2018, opening a definitive treatment option to those who otherwise did not have an option to prevent stroke.
“Dr. Tretter is a cornerstone to the cardiovascular program at Memorial and in our area,” said Pam Watt, Cardiovascular Cath Lab Manager at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. “We are profoundly grateful for all that he does not only for his patients, but for the community.”
The 2024 Cambria Somerset Heart Ball raised more than $100,000 through sponsorships, ticket purchases, donations and a silent auction, all of which are used to carry out the mission of the American Heart Association in the local community.
