Aterial Venous Malformation

Arterial Venous Malformation is a tangle of blood vessels connecting arteries and veins in the brain, which disrupts normal blood flow and oxygen circulation and bypasses normal brain tissue. Arteries are responsible for carrying oxygen filled blood from the heart to the brain. Veins then carry blood without oxygen back to the lungs and heart.

The first symptoms of AVM often occur after bleeding and can vary based on its location.

Symptoms can include:

• Bleeding
• Progressive loss of neurological function
• Headaches
• Nausea and vomiting
• Seizures
• Loss of consciousness

Other sign include:

• Dizziness
• Back pain
• Vision problems
• Weak muscles
• Loss of coordination
• Paralysis in part of the body
• Memory loss
• Hallucinations
• Confusion
• Numbness, tingling, or pain
