Patient Safety
Safety is a priority at Conemaugh Health System. Sophisticated measures are in place to ensure security for mom and baby. The Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Maternity Care Suites, Labor & Delivery Suites, Newborn Nursery, and Regional Intensive Care Nursery (RICN) are all locked, secured areas. These areas are all continually visually monitored by department staff and the Security Department.
Mom, Dad / significant other, and baby are given an electronic identification bracelet that must be worn at all times when in the Maternity Department. Baby will have a small computerized security censor placed on his / her ankle supported by our state-of-the-art wireless Infant Security System. Patient information is not given to anyone without permission, following HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines. Patient names are not displayed publicly within the department.
Conemaugh Health System Maternity/RICN staff members wear pink ID badges with name and title clearly identified. Parents are instructed to not give their infant to anyone not properly identified.
